CHRISTIAN VIEWPOINT FEATURE #18

Be on the Hunt for Beauty:
In this article, Clinton highlights how the poet David expresses his all–consuming desire to enjoy God that leads to a wholehearted hunt for God in the midst of danger and the threat of death and that David kindles our Godward longing to enflame our Godward pursuit – calling us to be on the Beauty hunt for God.

Solidarity – A Christian Perspective:
In this article by Dr Roland Chia, he shared that last year, Global Nation, in partnership with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Citizen, Glocalities, and Goals House released the new Global Solidarity Report which assesses the current state of global solidarity citing if whether the global solidarity is threatened by recent events such as the Covid 19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukraine war, the Israel– Hamas war, as well as many other factors including economic inequality have weakened multilateral institutions. Yet, we know that the Christian concept of solidarity is not premised on a phenomenological or sociological understanding of the human being and human society. It is based on Christian theological anthropology that is grounded in God’s revelation that human beings are so created as to be bearers of the divine image (Genesis 1:26-28; 9:6).

Psalm 23 – Three things we must do to follow Jesus our Shepherd:
We see that Psalm 23 has comforted millions of people, dried countless tears, and healed many hearts. It is a psalm that even a child can understand due to its simplicity, yet it holds such depth that theologians can explore it for a lifetime, and Wu Yuzhuang invites us to look at three things that we need to follow Jesus our Shepherd.

Seeing the disabled in God’s image – In this article by Ethos Institute, it highlights how the past few decades, a number of churches across the different denominations have issued official statements calling their congregations to be places of inclusion and belonging, especially for people with disabilities. Indeed, Christians with disabilities and special needs to really experience a sense of belonging in a particular congregation, and for a radical change of mindset in its members and a deliberate effort to create a distinct ecclesial culture. Christians with disabilities will only feel that they truly belong in their local congregations when they sense that its members genuinely stand in solidarity with them.

How to Get Strong in God:

Faithful Missions, Sovereign Fruit – How God Tracks Gospel Success:
In this article, Mack highlights how enemies of the gospel abound. Yet God brings fruit from unlikely soil when we faithfully and patiently sow. For, success begins when we keep the gospel in focus as we push through difficulties to share the gospel with someone, placing our success of the gospel in God’s sovereignty and fulfilling our task to faithfully sow the seeds of the gospel with perseverance, leaving the rest to Him. Dualistic–Holistic Humanity in the Bible – In this article by Dr Ng Kam Weng, he discusses how the historical view of Christianity on the nature of human beings is one of anthropological dualism, that is, the view that each human being has a soul and a physical body, held by major Christian thinkers like Augustine and Aquinas, and is currently advocated by philosophers like Richard Swinburne and J.P. Moreland. Yet, Joel Green and Nancey Murphy maintain that the biblical view of man is that of monism which regards human beings not as immaterial or soulish beings, but as holistic, physically embodied and relational beings. For, Monism argues that according to the Bible, a human being is not divided into separate parts, i.e. body, soul and spirit. Sanctity and Justice – In this article by Dr Roland Chia, he points out how Christians are to be concerned about issues of justice because they worship and serve the just God (Deuteronomy 32:4); yet, the Christian understanding of justice and what motivates and energises the quest for it can be radically different from secular accounts. Indeed, Wesley makes a profound connection between holiness and the works of justice and mercy, seeing how the most intimate relationship between holiness and love links to the extent of understanding the two as synonymous.

FOOD AND FAITH – In this article by Dr Kwa, she addresses how God created us to eat regularly; we do not store up food in us. He also created the conditions in this world – seed bearing plants and the whole ecosystem which provides food for all creation to eat. By this, food and eating together are not merely things we do to survive, but are habits and practices which can lead us to know and understand God deeply and be drawn closer to others.

Re–Open the Windows – The Challenge of the Secular in Our Generation:

Reclaiming Christian Freedom – In this article by Dr Khaw Siew Ping, she points out how renouncing one’s allegiance to Christ does amount to a wresting back of one’s autonomy – literally translated as “self-rule” while the other view shows the simplistic equivalence drawn between autonomy and freedom reveals a severely anaemic understanding of Christian freedom. Though, freedom is not the absence of constraints, yet by ancient and Christian understandings, liberty was the condition of self–governance, whether achieved by the individual or by a political community, not until our hearts can understand Jesus’ enigmatic invitation to take his yoke (Matthew 11:29). And, to have freedom fundamentally relational, a free person can resist from getting entangled in human relationships where his relationships entail responsibility to others. Only then, we can be the redeemed people of God be as shining lights as we seek to understand and live out true freedom in Christ. Does Israel’s 77th Anniversary Mark a Prophetic Shift Toward Global Revival?
In this article, James highlighted that a passionate message aired May 1 & Sid Roth declared Israel’s 77th anniversary a prophetic milestone brimming with supernatural meaning. “This is a show of miracles,” Roth said. “Get ready. This is a historic day.” He emphasized that the number 77 is far more than symbolic: it holds deep Hebrew and biblical weight tied to strength, completeness, and divine purpose.

In Jewish tradition, the number 77 corresponds to the Hebrew word ‘oz,’ which means strength,” Roth explained. “So this is a year of strength. It’s a year of strength for Israel. It’s a year of strength for you.” He noted how the number seven alone represents “perfection, completion and divine wholeness,” making this double-seven moment profoundly significant. Saints in the marketplace – In this article by Dr Roland Chia, he points out that Christians should be alert to the fact that the modern marketplace is not ideologically or morally neutral and how they can be flooded with ideas, fads, trends, moral sensibilities, values and attitudes which affect lives, shape relationships and colour our understanding of reality itself, yet believers must be steeped in the teachings of Holy Scripture and allow the truths of God to govern their minds, hearts and conduct.

Gaza Abandoned? Biblical Prophecy in Zephaniah Now Coming True:
In this article, James highlighted that a recent Gallup survey revealed a shocking reality inside Gaza, more than half of the region’s civilians are ready to flee. According to the data, “52% were ready to leave, although most would want to return at a later date.” Fourteen percent said they would leave permanently, and another 38% said they would leave temporarily. These numbers reflect more than just frustration – they reveal desperation. With “shortages in electricity and fuel” cited as the “number one daily challenge” by 75% of respondents, and access to “food and water” closely following at 73%, life under Hamas rule is unbearable.

In this article, James highlighted how the world is marching ever closer to a cashless society, and the headlines are starting to sound more and more like scenes pulled from prophecy conferences past. In a recent Prophecy Watchers video, hosts Mondo Gonzales and Gary Stearman tackled the financial transformation unfolding before our eyes, sparked by none other than President Donald Trump’s open embrace of stable coins.

An Unintentional Tribute

As I meditated upon how the Romans Jews said, “He saved others, they said’ ‘but he can't save himself!’” (Matthew 27:42a, NIV), I observed how the humiliation and shame that our Lord endured for us on the cross of Calvary. As such, I am being reminded of how those who save themselves cannot save others and those who save others cannot save themselves – cannot save themselves from trouble, sorrow, hurts, disappointments, pain, and death. Truly, I read how Cicero, a Roman philosopher once said of crucifixion that “Far be the very name of a cross not only from the bodies of Roman citizens, but from their imaginations, eyes and ears” as he highlighted this point inside the Every Day Light online devotional text. And, I read how the apostle Paul emphasized the cross as deliverance from sin ad guilt of shame (Galatians 1:4, NIV).

Indeed, Spencer said, “It is a great mystery, yet an everlasting fact, that goodness in all moral natures has the doom of bleeding upon it, allowing it to conquer only as it bleeds. All goodness conquers by a cross” as he also mentioned his point inside the Every Day Light online devotional text too. By this, I see how the law of saving by self-giving runs through life that takes place over the law of the universe.

Hence, this prompts me to thank Jesus for having paid the ransom of my sin and how He had redeemed from all of my wickedness of sin like how He died for all people and He have redeemed them from all of their wickedness (1Timothy 2:6a, NIV) as I reflected upon my today’s reading.

Is Jesus your Saviour today?

Atonement

As I meditated how the apostle Paul said, “God presented Him as the atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood” (Romans 3:25a, BSB), I am being reminded of how the heart of atonement is found through Jesus Christ who sacrificed Himself up on the cross for our sins. Indeed, I read how the apostle John assured the believers to know how Jesus had atoned’ the sins of all people for the sins that they had committed (1 John 2:2, NIV). Truly, Herbert Spencer said, “The task of religion is atonement” to know how the vitality and irretrievably may fail if one fails to bring men and women into correspondence with God, like how one theologian puts it: “It is a task worthy of God” as they pointed out inside the Every Day Light online devotional text. As such, I thank Jesus for being my Saviour who has not only died for my sins but the sins of the world and that through Jesus I am thankful that I have eternal life through Him. And, this prompts me to deliver men and women from evil and know how God has claimed His deepest love for their lives and that He provides them with His salvation.

Hence, this prompts me to thank Jesus that He has reconciled the world and ourselves back to God through the message of the cross (2 Corinthians 5:19, NIV) as I did my today’s reading.

Do you know of anyone who doesn’t know Jesus yet and needs reconciliation today?
