MISSIONARY NEWS FEATURE #32

Operation World:
IndiaThis prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/06-30/#india highlights how India overtook China as the world’s most populous nation, making it also the largest democracy in 2023. Yet this vast population brings immense political, economic, and social challenges that weigh heavily on the government. Among them, the caste system remains deeply entrenched. The Dalits, Bahujans, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes together make up about 25% of the population. For thousands of years, these groups have endured oppression, with the caste system and at times Hinduism itself – used to justify their suffering and exclusion.

Guinea This prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/06-10/#guinea highlights how Guinea remains largely unreached. Though missionary activity has increased, most peoples remain a pioneer challenge. The three dominant groups are Muslim, yet their faith is deeply interwoven with animistic practices. We pray for courage and boldness among those who follow Christ, and for families and communities to turn to Him together – for isolated believers struggle to sustain their walk alone. Conversions among these groups continue as a steady trickle, but much prayer is needed before a true breakthrough is seen. If these peoples were to experience such a breakthrough, the transformation of the entire nation would be profound. “Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your inheritance” (Psalm 2:8).

Ghana This prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/06-03/#ghana highlights how Ghana is blessed with a rich Christian heritage. New churches continue to spring up, while many traditional denominations remain vibrant in spiritual life. Yet with rapid multiplication comes the danger of confused doctrine. Thankfully, Ghana has been given the gift of many training institutions to strengthen the Church in truth.

The greatest challenge lies in the persistence of traditional African practices, which often compete with the gospel. Still, the youth hold a vital role in the hope of revival. With much of the population under 15, their openness to spiritual things is a great opportunity – yet efforts to reach them remain insufficient, especially beyond the major cities. In the villages, Islam and African traditional religions often dominate.

GermanyThis prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/05-31/#germany highlights how Germany stands at the crossroads of wealth, influence, and strategic location within the EU – resources that could serve greatly for the Kingdom of God. Yet such potential requires strong, courageous leadership shaped by Christian values. The nation’s spiritual health, however, is in decline. The destructive criticism of Scripture in the 19th century weakened the Church, paving the way for pagan Nazi rule in the 20th century.

EgyptThis prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/05-13/ highlights how Muslim– background believers are growing in number, including some former religious leaders. While conversion is not illegal, many face imprisonment under charges like “despising Islam,” or are forced to flee. Converts cannot change identity cards to register as Christians. Exact figures are unclear, but growth is unprecedented. Claims of up to one million converts in Egypt are likely exaggerated, yet thousands have genuinely embraced Christianity in recent years.

Comoros This prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/04-26/#comoros highlights how the majority of the population identifies as Muslim, and prior to 1973, they were largely unevangelized. In recent years, Islamic fundamentalism has been on the rise. At the same time, many within the community engage in occult practices such as witchcraft, curses, and spirit possession. (Cited source from 26th April 2026 – Operation World)

China – This prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/04-07/ highlights how China enforced a one–child policy between 1970 and 2015 to curb population growth. During this period, many families strongly preferred having a healthy son, which led to widespread abortion, abandonment, or trafficking of female and disabled infants. Today, the government discourages abortion as a method of birth control and promotes larger families, yet fertility rates remain stubbornly low. As a result, China faces a looming demographic challenge: a rapidly aging population with fewer young people to support them. This imbalance is expected to place heavy economic and healthcare burdens on society, while the nation’s labour force continues to shrink.

Central African RepublicThis prayer news – https://operationworld.org/prayer-calendar/03-31/#central-african-republic highlights how Central African Republic (CAR) is among the world’s poorest countries and faces overwhelming humanitarian needs. A prolonged cycle of coups, counter-coups, and civil conflict has severely damaged its economy and infrastructure. Muslim rebel groups (Séléka) and predominantly Christian militias (anti–balaka) have clashed with government forces and with one another, displacing hundreds of thousands of people.

Asian/Middle East Mission Prayer News:
Hope and help from faith-based team already on the ground in Venezuela:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/hope-and-help-from-faith-based-team-already-on-the-ground-in-venezuela/ highlighted that on June 24, acting president Delcy Rodriguez declared a national state of emergency after twin quakes struck northern Venezuela. More than 770 buildings were severely damaged, including structures in Caracas and the nearby port city of La Guaira. By Sunday, at least 1,450 lives had been lost, with tens of thousands still missing. The danger continues to loom.

We lift before God the people of Venezuela in this time of deep sorrow. We pray for God to comfort the brokenhearted, sustain the weary, and guide leaders and servants with wisdom. We pray for the Church to shine as a beacon of hope, and for God’s healing hand to restore what has been lost.

Venezuela earthquake survivors describe God’s providence, with prayer greatly needed:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/venezuela-earthquake-survivors-see-gods-providence-with-prayer-greatly-needed/ highlighted that on Wednesday night, two powerful quakes shook northern Venezuela within a minute of each other, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. The second tremor was the strongest to strike the nation in over a century. By Friday, the death toll had risen to 589, with thousands still unaccounted for. The coastal region north of Caracas bears the heaviest destruction. Yet, Annabel Torrealba, International Director for Latin America and the Caribbean with TWR, has remained in close contact with survivors, offering encouragement and support.

We pray for wisdom as TWR’s partners in Venezuela walk alongside the afflicted, bearing witness to Christ in the long recovery ahead. We pray for God’s comfort and provision to flow through His Church, and through governments and relief agencies, bringing hope to Venezuela in this dark hour.

The growing fears of Bangladeshi believers:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/the-growing-fears-of-bangladeshi-believers/ tells a growing sense of fear is settling over Christians in Bangladesh. Believers face rising persecution at home, alongside tensions linked to neighbouring India. Many worry that the spread of Hindu nationalist ideology could intensify pressure on religious minorities, echoing the persecution already seen in parts of India. We pray for the Gospel to advance in Bangladesh. We ask the Lord to protect His people in Bangladesh and India, strengthening them to follow Christ faithfully amid opposition.

Hope for Syria’s minorities amid regional instability:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/hope-for-syrias-minorities-amid-regional-instability/ highlighted how tensions ripple across the Middle East as a fragile ceasefire holds between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, even while Israeli strikes continue in Syria. Samuel of Redemptive Stories notes that the region’s conflicts are complex yet deeply connected. Amid violence, Gospel movements have begun among Syria’s Alawite and Druze communities. The devastation of ISIS, massacres, and attacks on minorities has stirred deeper questions and –in some hearts, a turning to Jesus. We pray that believers across the Middle East will share their faith with boldness, offering both care and the hope of Christ to those in need.

As China embraces junta government, what it means for Myanmar Christians:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/as-china-embraces-junta-government-what-it-means-for-myanmar-christians/ shows how Myanmar’s junta leader Min Aung Hlaing received a formal welcome from Xi Jinping in China, signaling Beijing’s acceptance despite global rejection of the 2021 coup and flawed elections. While the regime gains legitimacy abroad, believers at home face mounting pressure. We pray for God’s protection over Christians in Myanmar. We ask Him to strengthen pastors and leaders amid fear and instability. May believers remain faithful witnesses to Christ, and may the Lord continue sustaining His Church even in restricted places.

Gospel workers in Syria face fear with faith:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/gospel-workers-in-syria-face-fear-with-faith/ shows how believers serving where Christ is unknown are like first responders – called to step into danger with courage, not the absence of fear but faith in action. Global Catalytic Ministries partners with Gospel workers in places like Syria, where sharing Christ among Druze or Shi’ite communities can cost lives. Their mission is to reestablish Christian witness where it has been erased, building strongholds of faith in hard places.

We praise God for Sister H’s steadfast faith and we pray for her continued growth in Christ, and for Gospel advance among the Druze community.

Peace, poverty, and pressure – a deal without immediate relief:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/peace-poverty-and-pressure-a-deal-without-immediate-relief/ says how a tentative US–Iran deal is expected June 19, yet the economic fallout of war remains severe – felt globally at fuel pumps and deeply within Iran’s economy. The crisis is not only recent; decades of mismanagement since 1979 have left infrastructure and resources neglected. As conditions worsen, economists warn of a looming “poverty explosion,” with over 40 million Iranians at risk of falling below the poverty line. Behind the statistics are human lives – families struggling to work, feed children, and survive. Resistance movements continue to challenge the regime, even as defiance toward the West persists.

We pray for God’s mighty hand in Iran – courage for believers, blessing over first–time viewings of Esther – Queen of Hope, and provision for the right audiences among the diaspora. May faithful witness shine amid hardship.

Bible distribution continues in China despite persecution:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/bible-distribution-continues-in-china-despite-persecution/ says how China’s suppression of religious freedom is longstanding, yet recent arrests – three for distributing materials and six tied to children’s Sunday school – show its ongoing severity. As Kurt Rovenstine of Bibles for China notes, such restrictions are expected, with Bible distribution and ministry to minors tightly controlled. Still, God inspires creative witness: approved Bibles printed through Amity Press, and Scripture produced in the U.S. and Canada, can reach Chinese visitors and perhaps return home to disciple families. Children’s Bibles especially may slip through borders, giving parents some freedom to nurture faith even when group discipleship is forbidden.

Let us pray that God opens doors for creative discipleship and Scripture distribution in China. May children’s Bibles and other resources carried back from abroad strengthen parents to teach their children the Word of God.

Christians bring help and hope after Philippines earthquake:
A mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/christians-bring-help-and-hope-after-philippines-earthquake/ tells how Philippines reels from Monday’s 7.8 magnitude quake – Mindanao struck hard, leaving dozens dead and hundreds injured, with waves reaching as far as Japan. AMG International, serving children and families in the quake zone, swiftly mobilizes to assess safety and provide relief. Local churches and staff stand ready, turning facilities into centers of care.

First response brings food, water, shelter, and hygiene essentials – yet always with the Gospel at the heart. Believers offer both practical help and lasting hope. We pray for protection over children, families, and communities facing aftershocks. We ask the Lord to grant wisdom to AMG and its partners as they discern how best to respond. May Christ’s compassion shine through His people in this hour of need.

Christian parents in Iran know that following Christ means sacrifice and suffering:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/christian-parents-in-iran-know-that-following-christ-means-sacrifice-and-suffering/ says how talks between the United States and Iran remain uncertain, tied to the ongoing Israel–Hezbollah conflict and a war now stretching into its fourth month. Reports from SAT–7 PARS reveal the harsh realities Iranians face – children lost to airstrikes and regime crackdowns, others drawn into military activities. Yet believers in Iran hold fast to a sobering truth – following Christ means sacrifice and suffering and even grieving parents testify to resilience in Christ, reaching out at great risk for prayer and encouragement. SAT–7 PARS continues to broadcast hope, guiding families through grief and the pressures of war.

We pray for protection over 80 million of civilians, with wisdom and restraint among leaders, and strength for the Church in Iran + for God to uphold His people with stunning resilience and deepen their witness in the midst of suffering.

Iran – Political leadership confusion, internet reboot, and Kuwait strikes:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/iran-political-leadership-confusion-internet-reboot-and-kuwait-strikes/ highlighted how the recent strikes on a Kuwait airport left dozens injured and one dead, as Iran retaliated against US airstrikes amid a fragile ceasefire. Meanwhile, reports of political turmoil remain unverified, adding to the uncertainty. Yet one hopeful sign emerges saw how limited internet access has been restored, allowing believers to reconnect and share Gospel hope despite restrictions.

In these turbulent days, we remember that behind headlines are millions of Iranians searching for truth and lasting peace. We pray for stability in the region, protection for civilians, and open doors for Gospel ministry. We pray for God strengthen Iranian believers and draw many hearts to Himself through ongoing outreach and discipleship.

In the midst of this uncertainty, we lift up Iranian believers, asking the Lord to grant them protection and boldness. We pray for God to use the instability of the region to awaken many hearts to Christ + for Him to grant godly wisdom to those leading these peace talks, so that His purposes prevail above human maneuvering.

What can the Western Church learn from North Korean believers?
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/what-can-the-western-church-learn-from-north-korean-believers/ reported how North Korean believers live under severe restrictions that silence open witness and hinder public worship. Yet when the Gospel is freed from dependence on buildings, programs, or institutions, it often becomes the very heartbeat of life. We pray that the Gospel itself will continue to sustain our brothers and sisters in North Korea. We ask that churches worldwide would treasure the Gospel above forms and traditions, so that they may stand firm when pressures arise.

Economy Minister Amer Bisat estimates losses of about $2 billion since March – nearly 7% of the nation’s GDP. On March 2, Hezbollah renewed strikes on Israel, ending the 2024 ceasefire. Twenty–four lives were lost, and many more were wounded. The Pakistan Taliban (TTP) has claimed responsibility for at least one of the attacks. We pray for the Gospel to bring peace across Pakistan, for God’s comfort to rest upon grieving families, and for those caught in terrorism to be transformed by Christ.

Lana Silk of Transform Iran observes that the ceasefire has greatly benefited the Iranian regime: “It’s given them space to catch their breath, to regroup, restrategize, and strengthen themselves for whatever rounds may come next.” We lift our prayers for God’s protection and speed over Iranian believers as they travel across the nation with the gospel; and we pray for the Lord’s hope and promised future for Iran to shine brightly, even in these uncertain times.

Who will shape China’s next generation?
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/who-will-shape-chinas-next-generation/ reported how the recent arrest of six Christians in southwest China underscores growing concerns about religious freedom and the shaping of the next generation. Todd Nettleton of The Voice of the Martyrs USA explains these believers were engaged in children’s ministry, though the charges against them portray their actions as far more severe.

We pray for God to raise advocates in government and society to defend persecuted Christians in China. May imprisoned pastors like Ezra Jin Mingri, Wang Yi, and others be strengthened and encouraged. As Hebrews 13:3 reminds us, we “pray for them in the way we would want to be prayed for if it were us behind the bars.”

The deal permits Israel to act in self–defense, while Hezbollah remains outside the accord. Indeed, Eric Mock with the Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) says, “People in northern Israel are constantly in fear. Some are not able to go to jobs, maybe some of the jobs have stopped, and they’re in great need.” We give thanks to God for SGA’s ministry in serving local churches and meeting their needs. Uganda training equips teachers to reach the next generation:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/uganda-training-equips-teachers-to-reach-the-next-generation/ reported how teachers are entrusted with shaping the next generation, yet they too need encouragement and renewal – a need this ministry seeks to meet. From the very beginning, God has stirred in people a thirst for knowledge. At the same time, Scripture places a weighty responsibility on those who teach: to embody Christlike character, remain steadfast in truth, and both inspire and correct those they lead. We lift up prayers for the ministry team, asking that they be equipped with the resources required to meet the growing demand for education in the region. We also pray for teachers to be refreshed and strengthened through their fellowship together, and for the teams guiding them as they lead and serve faithfully.

Bible translation advances among Sudanese refugees:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/bible-translation-advances-in-refugee-camps/ recalls how seven years after mass protests and a military coup removed dictator Omar Al–Bashir from power, Sudan remains without stable leadership. The attempted transition to civilian rule collapsed, and in 2023 two generals launched a war for control of the nation. Three years on, Sudan’s leadership is still unsettled as civil war continues. One constant, however, is that Islam remains the national religion. Persecution persists, with Christians targeted, churches attacked, and believers forced into refugee camps.

We pray for wisdom and strength for those living out the Gospel in these difficult circumstances. We lift up Sudan’s ongoing conflict, asking God to bring peace, establish just leadership, and protect the displaced. We also pray for translators working across multiple languages that their efforts would be accurate, efficient, and fruitful, leading many, including those from Muslim backgrounds, to faith in Christ.

Ukrainian church destroyed in Russia’s deadliest attack this year:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/ukrainian-church-destroyed-in-russias-deadliest-attack-this-year/ reported how on Thursday, Russia carried out its deadliest assault on Ukraine this year – launching nearly 700 drones and dozens of missiles. Eighteen lives were lost, and more than 100 people were injured. Among the buildings destroyed was not a military target, but a church in Zaporizhzhia. Yet, as Eric Mock of the Slavic Gospel Association (SGA) reminds us, the true church endures through God’s people. We lift up prayers for Ukrainian believers to find encouragement and for God’s comfort to surround the congregation whose building was destroyed. We also praise the Lord that, even in the midst of war, new churches are being planted across Ukraine.

Among them are the Argobba people, a nomadic Muslim community numbering no more than 250,000. Their lives revolve around farming and trade, yet constant movement and external pressures disrupt their stability. Syrian churches limit Easter celebrations in solidarity with attacked Christian town:
This mission article – https://www.mnnonline.org/news/syrian-churches-limit-easter-celebrations-in-solidarity-with-attacked-christian-town/ how this year, many churches in Syria are observing Easter in a more restrained manner, standing in solidarity with a Christian town that was attacked over the weekend. Samuel shares that Easter is usually a time of vibrant celebration in Syria – marked by marching bands and songs that carry both lament and joy. However, this quieter observance reflects the sobering reality of the pressures Syrian Christians are facing today. We pray that God will bless believers in Syria in unexpected ways this Easter, even if it does not unfold as they had hoped. We ask for strength and perseverance for Christians to remain in the region, recognizing that as more leave, the voice of the Church diminishes in its ability to bring hope to others. We pray that the Church will continue to shine as a bright light in the midst of Syria, bearing witness to faith, resilience, and the hope found in Christ.

The difficulty and delight of fatherhood

Picture the scene. It’s a Thursday afternoon and I’m working in my home office in Melbourne when my wife, Emma, and my youngest son, Isaac, approach my door.

“Joel, Isaac has something he wants to tell you.”’

With tears in his eyes, Isaac says, “Dad, I’m so sorry I did it again.”

I follow them inside, take one look at the crime scene and then walk into my bedroom. I mutter to myself, “Joel, it was just an accident.”

As I’m trying to keep it together, my oldest son, Elijah, crashes into my room and says, ‘Don’t be angry at him, Dad! I know it’s the third window he’s broken, but it wasn’t his fault'.

I snap back, “Give me a moment!”

Parents under pressure:

As a father of three who lives in Melbourne, this year has been a slap in the face. In 2020 my family has endured extended lockdowns, facemasks, home learning … and three broken windows! Even as I write this article, my three kids – like heat-seeking missiles – are tracking me down from room to room in a perpetual quest for my attention or simply for some snacks.

Being a parent means you rarely clock off. Being a parent in a pandemic means you never clock off.

As a pastor of a church, I have heard the quote “Never let a good crisis go to waste” a thousand times. It’s an inspiring quote by Winston Churchill that has influenced me to see difficulties of 2020 as opportunities for my character to be sharpened. But as a father, I rarely apply this quote to my parenting. And yet the truth is that tantrums, fights, toilet training, home learning and sleepless nights are actually parenting opportunities – where my character will be exposed for what it really is and refined into what it could become.

The Bible – a mirror for your soul:
As a follower of Jesus, I’m a fan of the most read book in human history: the Bible. And what I love about the Bible is that it’s a mirror for my soul. It doesn’t shy away from revealing to me the beautiful and ugly parts of my character. In a politically correct society, the Bible is not afraid to offend me—to tell me that I’m just as rebellious as my children. In fact, they get their disobedience from me.

As the writer Paul says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 8:23)

The gospel – gold for your soul:
I love the bluntness of the Bible, but also the grace of the gospel – that by faith in the death and beautiful resurrection of Jesus I can be undeservingly adopted into God’s family. I can become a child of grace!

In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 1:4–5)

As an imperfect father, the gospel is gold for my soul. Because in the gospel of Jesus I learn that I am a loved and forgiven son! And I learn that I’m not the only father of my children: they have a perfect Father who loves them even more than I do.

Released from the pressure of fatherhood:
This good news releases me from the overwhelming pressure of fatherhood – it’s not all up to me. But it also helps me to see the gift of fatherhood – that even the difficult moments are opportunities that can mould me into the likeness of Jesus and enable me to demonstrate the love of Jesus.

Fathers, listen to Robert Fulghum when he says, ‘Don’t worry that your children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.”

When my youngest son broke that third window, I was able to display the grace of Jesus that I always preach about. When I lost my temper at my oldest son, I had an opportunity to model the concept of repentance that I always teach him about.

The greatest gift this Father’s Day:
Being a father is a difficult task but it’s also delightful one. This Father’s Day, if you are a dad, I hope you are celebrated and appreciated. I hope you are gifted with a sleep-in, breakfast in bed, a hand-made card and a Bunnings voucher.

But no matter what material gifts you receive, don’t forget to see the little gifts in front of you. For your children are the greatest gift you will receive on Father’s Day: little human beings who long for your affection, your attention and your approval; little humans who are broken like you and need the gospel of Jesus preached and demonstrated to them daily.

Dads, keep pressing on. Keep working hard. Be present, be affectionate, be attentive. You cannot be a perfect father; but you can tell your kids that you love them, you can repent in front of them, and you can tell them that you’re proud of them. And, most importantly, you can talk to them about their heavenly Father, who loves them even more than you do.

This year, do your best to turn Father’s Day from being about you to being about God, the perfect Father, who so loved you and your children that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

The deadliest sin

During my devotional reading, I questioned, “Who can reconcile God’s sovereign election and man’s free will?” Well, I found out how David weren’t afraid to admit that his heart had knew all the answers nor were his eyes raised too high up as if he was so intellectual egotist. In fact, I saw that he was contented to know what he could know and leave the mysteries with God (Psalm 131:1, NIV). Jesus reminds us that that we should have self–humiliation and repentance that is acceptable to God. God exalts the humble but He humbles those who exalt themselves (Luke 18:14, NIV).

So the learning point that if the attitude of trust in the wisdom, love, and power of God had brought peace and quietness to the soul of the Psalmist, then we are able to leave the unanswerable questions with God, our souls are loosed from tension as the Psalmist recommends that we should have attitude of confidence in the Lord (Psalm 131:2– 3, NIV). This teaches us that we should clothe ourselves with humility (1 Peter 5:5, NIV) because pride is regarded being as deadly sin.

As a Christian, I thank God for making me as a blessed man being conformed to God’s Word as I do things to please Him with my whole heart. I pray that my life will be cleansed and be abstained from evil with doing what is right in the sight of God as I handle the Word Of God diligently being as a believer (Psalm 119:100–104, NIV)

Are you cleansed by the Word of God today?

Knowing God

In my today’s devotional reading, I noted how God answered the prayers of the Psalmist to experience the deliverance as a testimony to show the Lord’s faithfulness in his life. By this, God also assures Israel that He has redeemed Israel from all his iniquities (Psalm 130:7– 8, NIV). I am reminded how trusting in the Lord brings God’s blessings upon a person’s life. After all, God knows a man’s deceitful heart and will punish the man who gets riches dishonestly (Jeremiah 17:7–8, NIV). And, God promised that He would make New Covenant with Israel/us today to bring it to a complete fulfillment when Christ comes back to reign over repentant hearts and would redeem us all as a nation (Hebrews 8:8, NIV).

This encourages me to have a room for the Lord to enable me to work out my salvation and move me to maturity to a full measure of faith of believing in Him.

Let’s grow in maturity to a full measure of faith today!

Empowered by the Holy Spirit for Mission

As we read and ponder upon what the Scriptures said, “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:1–4, NKJV), we see how Pentecost celebrates the birth of the Church and the mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. What began as a small, hesitant gathering of fearful followers was transformed into a Spirit–empowered movement that spread across the world. The wind and fire symbolize God’s power and presence, reminding us that the Spirit is never passive but always active – transforming lives, empowering believers, and sending us out to bear faithful witness to the gospel, especially to those who have yet to believe in God.

Pentecost is not only about the arrival of the Holy Spirit but also about the transformation of ordinary people into bold witnesses. The Spirit moves us from fear to courage, from silence to proclamation, and from division to unity. And the same Spirit that filled the disciples continues to fill us today. Truly, Pentecost is not just a historical event but a living reality too. The Spirit equips us with courage when we feel weak, wisdom when we face uncertainty, and unity when divisions threaten to separate us.

Therefore, we got to be bold in sharing our faith with kindness and courage when we witness the gospel to others, seeking reconciliation with fellow believers and live as a true community, reflecting the Spirit’s ongoing work of bringing people together in love and truth today.

Let’s be effective witness – sharing the gospel with others today!

Leaving a Spiritual Legacy

As teens, my sister and I didn’t understand my mom’s decision to receive Jesus as her Savior, but we couldn’t deny the changes we saw in her. She had more peace and joy and began faithfully serving at church. She had such a hunger for studying the Bible that she attended and graduated from seminary. A few years after my mom’s decision, my sister accepted Christ and started serving Him. And a few years after that, I also placed my trust in Jesus and started serving Him. Many years later, my father joined us in believing in Him as well. My mom’s decision for Christ created a life-changing ripple effect among our immediate and extended family.

When the apostle Paul wrote his final letter to Timothy and encouraged him to persevere in his faith in Jesus, he noted Timothy’s spiritual heritage. “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5, NIV). Truly, Timothy was of mixed parentage — a gentile father and Jewish mother. When Paul first met him, Timothy was already a leader and “the believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him” (Acts 16:2, NIV). He became Paul’s intern, traveling companion, and trusted protégé (Acts 16:3–4; Philippians 2:19–22, NIV).

Moms and grandmoms, your decisions can affect generations.

How beautiful that Timothy’s mom and grandmom helped nurture his faith so he could become the man God was calling him to be.

On this Mother’s Day and beyond, let’s honor mothers who’ve made a decision to follow Jesus.

Let’s also leave a spiritual legacy for our loved ones.

Which godly women can you honor today? What kind of spiritual legacy would you like to leave for others?

Happy Blessed Mother’s Day!

CHRISTIAN VIEWPOINT FEATURE #20A

Christological Origins of Paul’s Gospel:
This article @ https://ethosinstitute.sg/christological-origins-of-pauls-gospel/ by Dr Ng Kam Weng, highlights the four areas that often raise doubts regarding the authenticity of Paul’s teachings that stands firm, springing forth from his divine revelation of the risen Christ – born out of his personal encounter with Christ’s love and salvation. Yet, regrettably, his claims are often challenged, dismissed as distortions of Christianity by competing Hellenistic philosophies.

The Everyday Bride of Jesus – How Christology Shapes a Local Church:
This article – https://www.desiringgod.org/messages/the-everyday-bride-of-jesus by David Mathis says how the church draws its very life, authority, and ultimate joy from Jesus Christ. Yet the pressing question remains – in what ways does the dual nature of the God–Man shape and sustain the church’s health?

Why the Old Testament Ends with a Curse and How Jesus Breaks It:
This article – https://mycharisma.com/spiritled-living/why-the-old-testament-ends-with-a-curse-and-how-jesus-breaks-it/, by James Lasher highlights the sobering truth that lies at the heart of a recent teaching by John Eckhardt, who explored the book of Malachi as the final prophetic voice before Christ’s arrival. Eckhardt underscores that this conclusion is deliberate: “The book ends with the word ‘curse.’ The Old Testament ends with the word curse,” he explained. Yet, he reminds us, that is not the ultimate ending of the story.

Our Identity in Christ:
This article @ https://ethosinstitute.sg/our-identity-in-christ/ by Dr Roland Chia, shows how the Christian’s identity is not established on the basis of social conventions, nationality, but rather, it is grounded in Jesus Christ with whom the Christian is united – a concept that Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor identifies as “expressive individualism” where his sense of self, purpose and worth is shaped and governed by his relationship with Jesus Christ, than his own feelings, achievements, social status or worldly definitions.

Further Down the Slippery Slope – On Extending the 14–Day Rule:
This article @ https://ethosinstitute.sg/further-down-the-slippery-slope-on-extending-the-14-day-rule/ by Dr Roland Chia, shows how SSA he SSA cautions that certain policies, though seemingly limited at first, can gradually lead to morally troubling and even disastrous outcomes, citing the example of legalising physician–assisted dying (suicide) for patients with terminal illnesses to open the door to its extension for non-terminal cases. Similarly, the widely accepted 14–day rule for embryo research – intended as a practical safeguard could be stretched to 28 days, allowing scientists to study gastrulation, when primitive tissues first form. Advocates argue that such an extended window could enhance IVF safety, improve success rates, and deepen understanding of birth defects. Yet, the human embryo, from the moment of conception, bears the image of God and must be treated with dignity and protection, (Genesis 1:26–27).

From the Closet to the World: The Dynamic Relationship between Prayer and Action
This article @ https://ethosinstitute.sg/from-the-closet-to-the-world-the-dynamic-relationship-between-prayer-and-action/ by Dr Roland Chia, highlighted how the modern evangelical church must remain alert to two related, though often misunderstood – errors concerning prayer and action, and how they are connected. Scripture, along with the Church’s rich theological and spiritual heritage, consistently affirms that prayer and Christian action are deeply intertwined and cannot be separated. It is said that prayer is foundational basis to the Christian life where life–giving communion flows between creature and Creator if he/she has relationship with God because of the gracious divine invitation, and for us to participate in action in His redeeming work in the world. Truly, prayer and action constitute as one rhythm of grace where the rhythm of love begins and ends in God than being two separate movements.

Who Has Faith in Marriage and Family? It’s Not Just the Religious
In this article – https://ethosinstitute.sg/a-most-respectable-sin/ by Dr Roland Chia, he highlights that one of the sins in Thomas’ list is “sloth”, which is generally defined as physical and spiritual idleness (the other six are: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony and wrath). Thomas describes sloth as “an oppressive sorrow”, a “sluggishness of the mind which neglects to do good.” Yet, there is a sin in becoming a workaholic, and studies have shown that workaholism can be considered a form of addiction because it exhibits many of the same symptoms, found in other forms of addiction such as tolerance, withdrawal, conflict, salience, relapse and mood modification. In addition, there is also substantial evidence that workaholism negatively impacts both physical and mental health and heightens work–family conflict, to the extent that it can reasonably be regarded as a sin.

Fighting Pagan Gods and Principalities with the Practice of the Good Life:
In this article – https://ethosinstitute.sg/fighting-pagan-gods-and-principalities-with-the-practice-of-the-good-life/ by Kjelti Koh, he reminds us that spiritual warfare is understood as God judging and opposing these demonic enemies, both to wage war against them, yet He comes to restore order from the chaos and destruction they have caused, overthrowing corrupt powers and rescuing humanity from their evil grip, knowing that Jesus has already destroyed the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), and He now calls us, as His followers, to take part in this spiritual struggle. In this way, metaphors can expand our vision of the Good Life, helping us move beyond a simplistic worldview that divides reality into agents of pure good or pure evil. Such reductionism can minimize personal responsibility for sin and neglect the slow, demanding work of discipleship toward holiness, replacing it with the quick fix of merely casting out demons.

Compassionate Killing?
In this article – https://ethosinstitute.sg/compassionate-killing / by Dr Roland Chia, he highlights that while Euthanasia and assisted dying are often described as compassionate acts because they aim to relieve the unbearable suffering of patients with incurable illnesses, and many supporters also argue that such practices uphold the dignity of terminally ill individuals. Carey shares this view, speaking of providing a dignified way for a terminally ill patient to end their life; yet, some theologians and ethicists contend that this notion of “functional dignity,” when considered in isolation, does not fully reflect the richer and more comprehensive understanding of dignity found within the Christian tradition.

What’s in a name? Making Some Sense of the “Pronoun Hospitality” Debate:
This article – https://ethosinstitute.sg/whats-in-a-name-making-some-sense-of-the-pronoun-hospitality-debate/ by Dr Lewis Winkler, he noted how names both impart and express identity like the time when Adam names the animals as one way to fulfil God’s mandate to “have dominion” over creation in Genesis.2. Indeed, the one who names claims special kind of authority over who or what is named. And since names are expressed in language, how we perceive language impacts the way we understand and relate to the world around us. Christians, in contrast, recognize that language, properly understood, is a gift from God and refers to a concrete external reality created not by us but by Him, and how Christians consider maleness and femaleness to be external endowments, knit into the fabric of creation by divine design. This encourages us to accept our self–generated and self–determined perception, maleness and femaleness as divine gifts, blessings to be humbly and gratefully accepted, embraced, and expressed.
