As
I pondered upon my Thursday’s meditation, often I am being reminded
that the word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum – “command” and how
this command to love was already central in Jewish faith (Leviticus
19:18, NIV); and when Jesus says, “Love one another. As I have loved
you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34, NIV), He demonstrated
His love out through taking the role
of a servant as He washed His disciples’ feet (John 13:5, NIV), calling them to do the same saying, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you” (John 13:15, NIV) and laying down His life by dying on the cross (John 19:30, NIV ) and that Jesus too shared this love with the Father (John 17:22–24, NIV).
Today, I would like to love others by caring for them, washing their feet clean & serve them as a humble servant of Jesus Christ to those I serve to, just as when Jesus showed His disciples how to love others through self–giving love that would shape their lives and how this self–giving love can also motivate me to sacrifice my time aside just to spend time with others by loving them – shaping me to be a better caring + loving person by serving Christ through servicing others.
Indeed, you + I can reach out to serve others with care, affirmation, and grace as we depend on the Holy Spirit to change us from within.
In what ways, can you & I serve others just as Christ serves them today?
