Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday, when some Christian traditions mark the foreheads of congregants with an ash cross. It is an outward witness to their inner conviction to live and serve God fully and faithfully.

As I meditated upon how the prophet said to the priests, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it ” (Ezekiel 9:4, NIV), in my Lent’s reading, I see how a mark has been put onto the foreheads of the people that signified the cross of Christ – salvation to all mankind. Indeed, “Tau” – the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet that has been shaped like an “X” in Ezekiel’s time in Hebrew context then.

However, I thank God to know how my faith doesn’t operate within the shadow of doubt within me whenever I get hurt in life – making me feel discouraged and despair sometimes, if I choose to cling to the hope where my faith in God promises, knowing how this hope springs up eternally for me as I choose to hold onto my faith in God today (Hebrews 11:8, NIV).

What are your greatest doubts that battle with your faith in God today?
