In Bangalore, there seems to be construction labourers passing by the church. They come from a nearby village, and they’re not Christians. Yet they would stand in front of the church gate and take off their footwear. Upon observing them – the foreign workers made me wonder about my attitude toward the church, as the Scriptures said, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground” (Exodus 3:5, NIV). In church, as culturally the women would cover their heads with their traditional Indian saris and bow their heads in reverence. This seems to be their daily routine.
As the Psalmist said in the Bible, “Let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker” (Psalm 95:6, NIV), as we stand before a holy God, we see the significance presence of a living God, who is to be worshiped every day.
