Sing Song of Hope

 

As I read about how King David offered his song of thanksgiving to the LORD during the time of his kingly reign (1 Chronicles 16:23–31, NIV) in my Advent's meditation, I found out how this song of thanksgiving is being described as a hymn of praise to Israel’s God which denotes as “royal” psalm in Psalm 72, NIV and how this song was being sung during Solomon’s enthronement as king too. Truly, the God of Israel was the Lord God of Hosts, the exalted Sovereign Lord of all, before whom all people, even the king, bowed in worship (2 Chronicles 18:4–7a, NIV) except leaving few kings out of royalty after king Solomon because “they did evil in the eyes of the Lord” (Judges 3:12a, NIV).

Today, I choose to sing songs of hymns as I rejoice at the birth of my Saviour and King remembering that “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever” (Revelation 11:15, NIV) and how “The kingdom of God has come near” (Mark 1:15, NIV) which Jesus spoke then as I reflected upon my reading.

Indeed, Charles Silvester Horne prayed, “Hasten, O Father, the dawn of the day; When this new song Thy creation shall sing; Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King. Come let us sing: Praise to our King, Jesus our King, Jesus our King” (Charles Silvester Horne, 1865–1914) featured inside The Heartbeat of Hope devotional text by Elizabeth Rundle.
