I once tried pretending to be someone when I wasn’t the person who I
really was as a person back yet it didn’t worked out as right as I
thought that it would be then. Yet, too many people have spent so much
of their lives pretending that they don’t remember who they really are
anymore and that they’ve spent all their energy and effort trying to
fake their way through life, thinking it will give them the life they
want. Truly, this prompts me not to please people as this can be foolish
for me to think otherwise, just as Solomon said, “It is dangerous to be
concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the LORD, you
are safe” (Proverbs 29:25, GNT) but to remind myself that I should
trust God to help me present myself of who really I am as a person while
I pondered upon my Lenten weekend’s reading.
I also pray that
God helps me not to strive for perfection with my own will + strength so
that I can have others love me for my perfection when I am not really.
Indeed, Jesus said, “You are the ones who make yourselves look right in
other people’s sight, but God knows your hearts. For the things that are
considered of great value by people are worth nothing in God’s sight”
(Luke 16:15, GNT);
Truly, this encourages me to switch my focus
to what God thinks of me knowing that He completely knows me and loves
me unconditionally as a person and that Christ perfects me because I am
in Him (Matthew 5:44, NIV) causing me to obey Him in following His
teachings and He sets me free from pretending to be someone when I am
not as to what the psalmist says, “I will live in perfect freedom,
because I try to obey your teachings” (Psalm 119:45, GNT).
In what ways does social media makes you more vulnerable to pretending today?
