As I pondered upon my Good Friday’s reading, I saw that although Jesus
was being crucified on the cross, He was able to forgive His enemies –
teaching people about the importance of forgiveness throughout His
ministry; that He has the power to forgive sins (Matthew 9:6a, NIV)
especially when He prayed, “Father, forgive them for they do not know
what they are doing” (Luke 23:34a, NIV) and this prompts you & me to
forgive each other (Matthew 6:14, NIV ) since Jesus came to restore
relationship between God and humankind, and that God was forgave us
through the blood of Christ, reconciling us to Him (2 Corinthians 5:18,
NIV). Truly, forgiveness is indeed the underlying element in the whole
gospel message.
Today, I choose to forgive someone who has said
things wrong about me or done something wrong towards me and that I
forgive the person just as Christ has forgiven the person through the
blood of redemption at the cross. For unforgiveness causes an ongoing
rift between God and ourselves yet Jesus has forgiven us through His
blood of redemption at the cross for all we have said and done to offend
Him and others. Truly also, Jesus takes off the burden from us as we
release our spirit of unforgiveness up to Him – helping us to forgive
ourselves and others even though times can be difficult too.
Is there anyone you hold unforgiveness towards today?
